cms - Plone

This website was developed using Plone, a powerful open source content management system. Some key features of Plone, which are important to our clients, include:

    • a flexible workflow management system, so we can authorize some people to create content and others to approve content
    • an "Undo" feature, that allows authorized personnel to roll back content changes
    • the use of browsers and wysiwyg editors to permit content providers to focus on content rather than technical details
    • an optional membership feature, which permits the use of "public" and "private" website areas

At clrmedia.com, we often use Plone to develop websites for clients. Upon completion, each client has the ability to modify its website's content and features.

cms - other

As much we often wish for a one-shoe-fits-all approach, we recognize it is not feasible. Yes, we like Plone but, no, Plone is not the answer for everyone. We developed a simple content management system so we can rapidly create small websites, yet give the client full control over content via a web-based wysiwyg editor.

At times, the available off-the-shelf solutions are no solution at all. In these situations, we create a custom content management system to meet the precise needs of our client. At Stony Plain Records, the management of artists, CDs and CD tracks (to say nothing of images and audio samples) was a major hassle. We provided a cms that removes the hassle and lets Stony Plain staff focus on business, which (for them) is a lot more fun.

plug-ins

Plug-ins are software programs that extend the capabilities of your browser, allowing the Internet to be more interactive, more fun and more informative. The identification of acceptable plug-ins is part of the design process.

We use Flash to provide cross platform, cross browser audio and some navigation for certain Internet applications and websites. The Flash plug-in is included with most browsers, so this does not unduly limit access.

Some projects, such as our series of Science 14 applets, were developed in Director and use QuickTime™ for audio. Other projects, such as Parenting a Child with Developmental Needs, were developed in Authorware. Both were designed for delivery via CD and both require browser plug-ins for accessing via the Internet.

no plug-ins

Corporate workstations are often locked down, preventing the installation of unauthorized plug-ins or even the updating of authorized ones. For these clients, a no plug-in solution is often the best solution.

Our e-Learning Suite is specifically designed for online learning. The Suite operates on any computer with a Windows-based operating system and Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher. You do not need to change your organization’s standard desktop or network configurations. Java and other plug-ins are not needed.

Take a look at WHMIS Interactive. It offers audio, interactive exercises, student tracking, reporting and course administration capabilities. And all in a package that is only 7 MB in size, including the audio!
